I saw these two stories at my new blog obsession, Orcinus.
Denver wants to host the 2018 winter Olympics.
A Denver geography teacher has been suspended for refusing to remove a classroom display that includes Chinese and Mexican flags, based on a state statute that says, "Any person who displays any flag other than the flag of the United States of America or the state of Colorado or any of its subdivisions, agencies or institutions upon any state, county, municipal or other public building or adjacent grounds within this state commits a class 1 petty offense."
In related news, I'll be visiting Denver in a few weeks.

Well the next olympics is in China, which has some human rights issues. That flag business should be a relative mole hill compared to communism and killing baby girls.
have you ever been to denver? i went for the first time 2 months ago. i am curious to hear your opinions when you return. i will wait until that time to discuss it...
But the Olympics aren't a big pro-life or democracy group. They're a festival of international sports. Presumably they'll be displaying flags of many nations, which Colorado apparently has a big problem with.
Never been to Denver. Randomly chose it off a list of Dave Matthews Band tour dates to visit and see a show.
I realize the Olympics aren't political, simply stating that the right to fly a flag (or lack there of) has got to be a minor consideration. Very funny that it's an issue in the first place.
