edit: since there's been some discussion about this topic, here's 2 more relevant links. The text of Rumsfeld's speech. The text of Olbermann's commentary on the Rumsfeld speech.

I must have missed the instant when a guy who used to crack jokes about Randy Milligan suddenly felt he should get on tv and compare the current US administration to the regime of Adolf Hitler.

All of the good that our gov't and our country do for the world, and this db compares them to the Third Reich because of their "holding all of the facts" and allegedly mocking the populace for their dissention.

To you, Keith Olberman, you should have stayed with ESPN. I guess you want to get really, really, J-Lo style famous - and this is the way to do it these days. Because you know everyone who has a beef in their own life (and blames it all on the gov't) will love you. Hell, they might elect you to public office someday if you keep it up.

What a dick.

Did you even listen to what he said? He didn't compare them to Nazi Germany, he compared them to England.

He's calling the administration out on consistently demonizing and belittling their opposition.

I applaud Olberman for this, and I think you're way off base with your insult.

Uh, I'm pretty sure he did make plenty of parallels to the Nazi regime.

Demonizing? Are you kidding me? This is laughable when you consider the horrible things people say about this particular administration being corrupt and evil and morally bankrupt, etc. The things said about this administration go far beyong political disagreements and such, so many people (esp those in the liberal media) have made it a personal vendetta to attack and demonize the gov't at any chance. I.e. People on the CNN who were caught saying on camera "hopefully we can use this to stop Bush's momentum" while referring to the gruesome deaths of two soldiers in Iraq. Nice, real nice.

I just think you're extrapolating society's annoyance about other things which they deem to be the fault of "the man" and are kind of latching on to anyone who disagrees with the government.

It is just oh so fashionable these days to do so...isn't it?

In responding to a speech where Rumsfeld used lots of Nazi parallels. His central point is that the Bush administration is behaving like the English administration under Chamberlin who ignored the growing threat of the Nazis and ridiculed Churchill for his contrary views.

Rumsfeld suggested that anyone who opposes the war is "morally or intellectually" lacking. In other words "if you don't believe us you're evil or an idiot." That kind of attitude is decidedly unAmerican and worthy of criticism from any media.

And I hope you don't think that some media people are the only ones who use war stories to score political points for their causes.

I just think you're extrapolating society's annoyance about other things which they deem to be the fault of "the man" and are kind of latching on to anyone who disagrees with the government.

Explain.

I have no fucking clue what is or isn't fashionable, and I certainly don't give a shit what is fashionable when I'm trying to assess reality.

There's the text of Olbermann's commentary. In no way does he compare the Bush administration to Hilter.

Also, now I see that you're suggesting that Olbermann cynically delivered this message simply to get ratings because it is "fashionable" to insult the current administration. I can't profess to know what the man's motives were, but it seems to me that this guy is pretty sincere in his concern. Even if he did deliver it simply because he personally hates Bush or something, that doesn't detract from the aptness of his message.
