more on schools

or, or, as prof crispy says:

surely schools are good at absolutely anything compared to their ability to teach individual responsibility. they're more effective at nurturing an extreme ethic of concealment, even as they try to encourage a culture of anonymous denunciation of others etc. and of course what you're subjected to in terms of actual subject-matter is standardized across all individuals, and the behavioral goals are uniformity, silence, and detailed control over people's movements and expressions to achieve homogeneity.

You know, I'm not trying to comment on whether it's appropriate or not to for the president to address the children with a back-to-school message. But as a liberal myself (self-proclaimed) it's pretty fucking sad to see the president accused of advancing "liberal propaganda" when I know Obama is not capable of this.

because your idea of "liberal" is different than its mainstream use?

I guess so, though I don't think Obama is "liberal" even by mainstream standards. When I see some dumbass trying to warn us about Obama's "socialist agenda" it makes me want to puke.

Yeah, whatever Obama does will be called "liberal" by huge chunks of mainstream discourse no matter what.

oh, and in regards to:

"as a liberal myself (self-proclaimed)"

dont be so hard on yourself!

Haha, well I know that you and I differed on the defintion before. . . .
