this study makes a somewhat large assumption that resolving a contradiction in quotes should be made based on a logical analysis of only the issue at hand. if you are a democrat, of course you are going to give the democrat the benefit of the doubt, because you agree with him on most issues. much like you are likely to give your large, bald friend the benefit of the doubt when a girl accuses him of molesting her, even though it may have been true.
