Top Hybrid Comedies

Recent changes - I finally saw LMS and loved it.

My favorite movies that combine comedy and other stuff. As the list changes, I'll bump it up.

  1. American Beauty
  2. The Royal Tenenbaums
  3. Little Miss Sunshine
  4. Ocean's 11, 12
  5. O Brother, Where Art Thou?
  6. The Princess Bride
  7. Rushmore
  8. Three Kings
  9. Boondock Saints
  10. The Truman Show

Honorable Mention: Snatch, Orange County, The Hunted, The Last Waltz, Ravenous

No love for The Replacements? Despite starring Keanu Reeves, I find this movie oddly hilarious, owing mostly to the goofy John Madden commentaries.

Better than Snatch, but same genre (also by Guy Ritchie), was Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

I laughed so hard I cried when I saw Little Miss Sunshine, and I immediately said that I couldn't wait to see it again when it came out on DVD (and I NEVER anticipate DVD releases!). And it's funny that when other people asked what it was like, if they would like it, my first question was, "Did you like Royal Tenenbaums? If so, you'll love Little Miss Sunshine." People who hated Royal Tenenbaums I steered away from it.

Watch "About Schmidt", especially if you're a fan of Jack Nicholson.

You haven't seen Shaun of the Dead have you?

Why is Princess Bride a hybrid?

- Need to see About Schmitt
- Need to see Shaun of the Dead

What else would Princess Bride be? Are you saying it should be pure comedy? I'd say it is half fantasy/adventure/child's bedside story, half comedy. HENCE HYBRID.

Shaun of the Dead is great.
That is all.

whoah whoah whoah! What about Spinal Tap!?

I'm putting Spinal Tap under pure comedy, though I could understand an argument to have it as a hybrid.
